About this course

This course has been developed through a partnership between Griffith University and Qantas as part of the Safety Academy by Qantas Group, bringing together academic research, industry experience and practical leadership insight.

Leadership is tested when authority is contested, decisions carry significant consequences, and communication extends beyond its original audience. Throughout Leadership Under Pressure: Power, Crisis and Digital Risk, you’ll hear from experts across academia and industry as you explore how power, hierarchy and organisational dynamics shape decision-making, escalation, voice and accountability.

Drawing on contemporary leadership perspectives, the course will help you understand how leaders signal priorities, shape culture and exercise authority during crisis, disruption and change. You’ll also examine how social media, digital communication, automated systems and AI-enabled tools reshape leadership visibility, responsibility and risk.

This micro-credential forms part of the broader Safety Academy by Qantas Group course suite. It can be completed as a standalone course or packaged with Leadership Foundations: Performance, Safety and Trust to form a broader leadership learning pathway.

Course Snapshot

Course Overview

Across three modules, you’ll explore how power, pressure and visibility shape leadership communication, decision-making and responsibility. You’ll examine how formal authority, expertise and organisational dynamics influence participation, escalation and people’s willingness to challenge decisions or raise concerns.

You’ll then examine what leadership reveals during crisis, disruption and change, when every response signals what the organisation truly values. You’ll explore how leaders balance control with adaptation, coordinate responses and support learning and fair accountability when conditions are volatile or uncertain.

The course also examines leadership in digital and media-rich environments. You’ll consider how virtual work, social media, AI-enabled tools and automated systems increase leadership visibility and reshape responsibility, reputation and risk.

What core topics are offered?

The micro-credential consists of three (3) modules designed to strengthen leadership capability under conditions of pressure, scrutiny and change:

Power, Authority and Communication Risk: explores how power, hierarchy and authority gradients influence decisions and accountability. You’ll also examine how digital communication can magnify the consequences of leadership messages.

Leading Through Change and Crisis: examines how leaders shape culture and guide organisations through disruption and uncertainty. You’ll explore transformational, adaptive and complexity leadership, along with learning and fair accountability.

Leading in Digital and Media-Rich Environments: explores leadership across virtual, hybrid and digitally connected workplaces. You’ll examine digital inclusion, social media visibility, AI-enabled tools and ethical technology use.
