Full course description
About this course
Course Snapshot
After successfully completing this course, you should be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of basic physics principles and concepts
- Apply physics knowledge to solving simple physics problems
This course is equivalent to first-year university courses, and includes many of the topics covered in the Year 11 and Year 12 Physics syllabus. However, some topics will be new and/or covered in more detail to what you will learn in your classroom.
The aims of this course are to:
- Introduce students to the basic theory and experimental methods of physics
- Encourage students to apply the knowledge and skills gained to practical situations in the chemical, physical, biological, environmental, health and material sciences
- Provide knowledge and skills fundamental to other courses with physics requirements
Griffith Phys is a two year program conducted across Years 11 & 12. It will introduce you to the fundamentals of the Physical Sciences. The program is designed to complement your school's physics curriculum and you will study much of the content of the course within your normal physics classroom.
If you successfully complete Griffith Phys over the two years you will be eligible for credit for a first trimester Griffith University physics course (providing that course is a core requirement in the degree) and receive two adjustments to your Selection Rank when applying for entry into an eligible Griffith undergraduate degree program.
This course is self-paced, designed in modules to be completed in your own time. The assessment for the course will consist of two exams:
- Stage 1 at the end of Term 4, Year 11, and
- Stage 2 at the beginning of Term 4, Year 12.
Students who pass the Year 11 exam (>50%) will be invited to participate in the Year 12 part of the course. Students will then need >50% in the Year 12 exam to pass the course.
