About this course
Course Snapshot
In this course, you will engage with Modules 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3:
Module 2.1: Student Talk Time (STT) Boosters
The module emphasises the importance of focusing on high levels of STT in a language classroom and introduces you to a range of practical strategies and activities designed to revitalise and refresh your lessons. In the module, you will:
- discuss reasons why a high level of STT in the classroom may enhance student learning.
- engage with and develop a range of high level STT activities designed for use in the classroom.
- reflect on STT activities based on your own class context and discuss future application.
Module 2.2: Teaching Grammar in English
This module focuses on enhancing your confidence and competence in teaching English grammar through learning about various tools in grammar teaching. In this module, you will:
- engage with and develop a range of grammar enhancement activities specifically designed for high school EFL learners.
- reflect on grammar activities and how they may be used in your EFL classrooms.
Module 2.3: Teaching Vocabulary in English
This module explores a range of vocabulary-building strategies to assist you to teach written and spoken English. In this module, you will:
- implement a format for vocabulary enhancement.
- engage with and develop activities for vocabulary building such as: student-generated content, gamification of vocabulary building, incorporation of word-frequency principles, and a pronunciation strategy for learning new words.
- reflect on vocabulary-building activities and how they may be used in your EFL classrooms.

This course is suited for Taiwanese English Language teachers and has been developed by Griffith English Language Institute (GELI) in support of Taiwan Government’s Bilingual 2030 Plan. You can learn more about the GELI here.
Participants who complete this course will receive a digital Certificate of Completion.
You will attend 3 x interactive online sessions with a GELI teacher-facilitator for the three modules in this course. Each session is 90 mins.
Prior to each session, you will complete a short activity e.g. read a short document, view a digital resource or respond to a question(s) related to the module.
After each module/session, you will complete a 5-question quiz or a reflection question to consolidate your learning. This activity will be approximately 10 mins. This activity will need to be completed within seven days at the end of each module/session.

Cara Nunez
Cara Nunez began her teaching career in 2000, as an ALT in the Japan Exchange Teaching program. In 2004, she enhanced her pedagogy in multiple intelligence acquisition, working for a Howard Gardner Institute in Mexico and specialises in content and language integrated learning (CLIL). Her early passion for teaching and learning directed her to complete a master’s degree in educational practices at Bond University and joining the GELI teaching team in 2007. At GELI she has taught on all ELICOS direct entry programs, in addition to the High School Preparation (HSP) program, specialised groups, such as National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) TESOL teachers and Mixed English for Academic Purposes (MEAP). During this period, Cara also coordinated Study of Societies and Intercultural Studies at Griffith College and provided domestic mature-aged students the opportunity to consolidate and extend senior English Studies through Griffith Bridging English. She embarked on a year in China instructing at Deqing, Qiushi High School and Xuzhou, Chinese University of Mining and Technology.
