What core topics are offered?

Here's a brief overview of the modules you will work through in this course:

  • Human factors in cyber security:  Security needs to be usable and acceptable to be effective. In this module you will explore the growing body of research into the underlying causes of security failures and the role of human factors. You will learn how to minimise security failures by fitting the task to the human by raising awareness through education, and we will take a look at privacy and online rights and the related challenges.  
  • Laws and regulations: In this module, you will gain an understanding of the key laws, regulations, and ethical principles that underpin cyber security. You will explore how these legal and ethical frameworks apply to day-to-day ICT activities, and the importance of compliance in mitigating risks. 
  • Risk management and governance: What is risk? Risk can be attributed to all sorts of attributes or behaviours, ranging from use of ineffective passwords to lack of compliance with laws and regulations. In this module you will get the chance to explore how risk is approached from an organisational and regulatory aspect, and how to develop and evaluate options to address risks in a manner agreeable to people whose values may be impacted.
