About this course
Course Snapshot
This program is designed as a Griffith University initial teacher education pathway. Upon competion, you will meet the matematics prerequisite to be considered for the Bachelor of Education or Diploma of Education.
Topics covered in the course include:
- Developing a mathematical mindset approach to learning
- Number and numeracy
- Money, measurement, and relations
- Applied trigonometry, algebra, matrices and univariate data
- Bivariate data, sequence and change, and Earth geometry
- Investing and networking
This course is for prospective Griffith University students intending to undertake degree study in teacher education. You could be:
- an Australian citizen
- a New Zealand citizen
- the holder of a permanent resident/humanitarian visa.
This course is not available to international students, or applicants who have not completed their studies with English as the language of instruction or worked extensively in an English-speaking environment. Completion of this course will not satisfy English Language Proficiency requirements.

Bridging maths for aspiring educators caters to students who meet all other admissions criteria, including selection rank and need to meet the maths subject prerequisite for Griffith Initial Teacher Education programs.
Please ensure that you have received advice from Griffith University Admissions that this is the correct pathway for you, and whether you are eligible to receive a conditional offer for the next intake.
Step 1: Check entry requirements
Before applying for the Bridging maths for aspiring educators course, it's important you discuss your teaching degree entry requirements with us directly, to ensure this course is suitable for you. If you do not meet other admissions criteria, there are other pathways to our teaching degrees that may be better for you.
If you are eligible for the course, you may be eligible to receive a conditional offer for the next available intake for the Diploma of Education or the Bachelor of Education. Once you successfully complete the Bridging maths for aspiring educators course, Griffith will update your application that you have met the Maths prerequisite.

Once you are confident you are eligible we encourage you to sign up to the course. Please remember places are limited so sign up to secure your place.
This course is offered part-time over six weeks in on-campus and online modes. It is expected that you will commit to approximately 13–15 hours per week of study comprising:
- a compulsory two-hour, face-to-face tutorial once each week on campus or online* with a further two-hours support tutorial
- approximately 13 hours per week of self-study completing online modules (including assessment).
*Online available for students not currently residing in Brisbane or Gold Coast or who are unable to attend on campus due to work or family commitments.
Tutorials:
Tutorials are run Monday 12pm–2pm and support tutorial on Wednesday 12pm–2pm.
Tutorials run both on-campus and online (synchronously), that is as a hybrid model depending on numbers.
- On-campus tutorials are run on the Logan
- Online tutorials use virtual classroom technology.
